Looking back at my experiences with Tikkato…

I have been a co-creator of Tikkato, a hub of Toronto coaches that offered creative programming to inspire personal growth and new connections. Over the past several years, we have hosted workshops, courses, guest speakers, social events and other interactive experiences. We all have gained a lot from this experience but as we are all moving in different directions, we are bringing this chapter in our lives to a close.

One of the blog entries I wrote for Tikkato was a short piece reflecting on Michael Pollan’s advice to “Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.” – read it here.

Living in the “Blue Zone”

In 2004, internationally recognized explorer and educator Dan Buettner teamed up with National Geographic and hired the world’s best longevity researchers to identify pockets around the world where people lived measurably better. In these pockets, which they named “Blue Zones”, they found that people reach age 100 at rates 10 times greater than in North America.

After identifying key global “Blue Zones”, Buettner and National Geographic took teams of scientists to each location to identify lifestyle characteristics that might explain longevity. They found that the lifestyles of all Blue Zones residents shared nine specific characteristics.
